'Wicker Park Bandit' Strikes Eighth Bank
CHICAGO (STMW) - Authorities are searching for the "Wicker Park Bandit" — last spotted robbing his eight bank, this one in the River North neighborhood Monday morning.
The latest robbery happened at the North Community Bank at 448 N. Wells St. about 10 a.m., according to police. The robber entered the bank, gave the teller a note and drove away in a maroon Chevy Blazer.
It was his eighth bank robbery, according to the FBI.
Police said the man robbed the Chase Bank at 1200 N. State Parkway on Jan. 9 at 1:36 p.m. He passed a teller a note and did not display a weapon. He fled with an unknown amount of cash.
He robbed two North Community Bank branches on Jan. 6 -- one at 1600 W. Chicago Avenue and another at 1555 N. Damen Ave., according to BanditTracker Chicago.
He's also robbed: Chase Bank at 1350 N. Wells on Dec. 30; PNC Bank at 4440 N. Broadway on Dec. 22; North Community Bank at 2335 N. Clark on Dec. 20; and the Chase Bank at 1700 N. Wells on Dec. 13.
The "Wicker Park Bandit" is a black man, 20 to 30, 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-7. He has a thin build with black hair and brown eyes. He's been dubbed the "Wicker Park Bandit" because most of his robberes have been in and around Wicker Park.
He hasn't shown a weapon in any of the robberies and no injuries have been reported.
