White Sox's Cooper Wants To Play Through The Rain
(CBS) The White Sox-Indians game last night at U.S. Cellular Field tallied 2 hours, 39 minutes worth of rain delays, but if Chicago pitching coach Don Cooper had his way, the umpires would be more aggressive in letting clubs play through the rain.
Most notably, Cooper was a bit irked that a start by White Sox ace Chris Sale was cut short. Sale pitched just three innings, as he didn't return after the second rain delay, which last nearly two hours. Sale may have thrown only 40 pitches, but it was still enough work to be considered a full turn in the rotation, Cooper said.
"The umpires got to be a little more cognizant of what's going on," Cooper told the Mully and Hanley Show on Wednesday morning. "I thought we could've continued to play. When we walked off the field, it was raining a lot less than when we were on the field playing. We should've got more in. When you got (Justin) Masterson, their ace, and Chris Sale, our ace, you got to try and get more time in. I thought we came off too early."
Chicago went on to win 2-1 in a game that ended around 1 a.m.
