White Sox's Abreu Setting All Sorts Of Early Season Records
(CBS) White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has quickly turned into the best offseason signing in baseball.
After driving in four more runs Sunday, Abreu has now set the MLB record for RBIs by a rookie in April. He currently has 31 RBIs, 30 or which have come this month, with three days left in April. The previous record was 27 by Albert Pujols in April 2001. Abreu also set the White Sox franchise mark for RBIs in the season's first month, breaking Paul Konerko's mark of 28 set in 2002.
Abreu also is the first player in MLB history with four games of four or more RBIs in his first 26 big league games, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Abreu's 10 homers and 31 RBIs lead the major leagues.
On the McNeil and Spiegel Show this morning, Matt Spiegel was talking about Abreu's walk-off grand slam in a 9-6 win on Friday night. That blast set a MLB rookie record for homers in April, one Abreu extended Sunday with his 10th homer.
Spiegs was amazed by the sound of the ball off Abreu's bat, saying it just sounds different. Check it out for yourself below.
