White Sox Trade Jackson, Teahen To Blue Jays
CHICAGO (CBS) The White Sox traded pitcher Edwin Jackson and third baseman Mark Teahen to Toronto Wednesday in exchange for pitchers Jason Frasor and Zach Stewart.
The move will save the White Sox $9.5 million over the next two years, according to General Manager Kenny Williams. Jackson was then sent to St. Louis in a separate trade involving the Blue Jays.
Frasor, 33, is a right-handed reliever with a 2.98 ERA in 44 appearances this season. Zach Stewart, 24, has spent most of the year in the minors, but he pitched seven strong innings in his Major League debut June 16 and is 0-1 with a 4.86 ERA in three starts with the Blue Jays this season.
The White Sox called up minor league outfielder Alejandro De Aza Wednesday to replace Teahen on the Major League roster. De Aza is starting in center field and batting eighth this afternoon against the Tigers.
Williams said De Aza will replace the struggling Alex Rios in center field for the time being.
