White Sox Drop Milledge, Add Gray To Bullpen
CHICAGO (CBS) -- As they prepare to start their home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, the White Sox announced they had designated outfielder Lastings Milledge for assignment and brought up pitcher Jeff Gray from Charlotte.
Milledge, 26, had appeared in two games with the White Sox this season, in which he has gone 1-4 with a double and a run scored.
Gray, 29, was signed by the White Sox as a free agent in November, and now the team is purchasing the right-handed pitcher's contract from Class AAA Charlotte. He has already made 36 Major League appearances with the Oakland Athletics in 2008 and 2009, and the Cubs in 2010, the White Sox said.
He will wear No. 80.
The Sox home opener begins at 1:10 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Field.
