White Sox Recall Pitcher Scott Carroll To Replace Erik Johnson
(CBS) After shipping right-hander Erik Johnson back to Triple-A Charlotte following Thursday's rough start, the White Sox have recalled right-handed pitcher Scott Carroll, presumably to take on the role of No. 5 starter.
Carroll, 31, is 6-11 with a 4.50 ERA in his major league career. He is 0-1 with a 12.27 ERA in 3 2/3 innings this season.
Johnson struggled in his lone start with the White Sox this season, going 5 innings and allowing four earned runs in a 7-3 loss to the Red Sox.
The White Sox are in search for a fifth starter after designating John Danks for assignment this week. Johnson was initially called up in a corresponding move, but now Carroll takes his place on the roster.
Additionally, the White Sox announced that catcher Alex Avila would take on a rehab assignment in Charlotte. Avila has been on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 24, with a strained right hamstring.
The White Sox host the Minnesota Twins for a three-game series this weekend at U.S. Cellular Field.
