White Sox Place Flowers On 60-Day Disabled List
(CBS) One day after news broke that White Sox catcher Tyler Flowers would need to undergo shoulder surgery, the team has placed him on the 60-day disabled list.
With rosters expanding Sept. 1, the White Sox also purchased the contracts of right-handed pitchers Erik Johnson and Daniel Webb, catcher Miguel Gonzalez and infielder Marcus Semien from Triple-A Charlotte.
The 23-year-old Johnson combined to go 12-3 with a 1.96 ERA, three complete games and 131 strikeouts over 24 starts for Triple-A Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham.
Webb, 23, made 42 appearances between Single-A Winston-Salem, Birmingham and Charlotte this season, going 2-1 with a 1.87, 10 saves and 78 strikeouts.
Gonzalez, 22, hit .254 with two home runs and 20 RBI over 53 combined games between Birmingham and Charlotte this season.
And the 22-year-old Semien combined to hit .284 with 32 doubles, six triples, 19 home runs, 66 RBI, 110 runs scored and 24 stolen bases over 137 games between Charlotte and Birmingham. He appeared in 73 games at shortstop, 41 at second base and 23 at third.
The club also transferred right-handed pitcher Brian Omogrosso to the 60-day disabled list.
