White Sox GM: Dunn, Rios Need To Help Team, Not Focus On Own Stats
CHICAGO (CBS) -- White Sox general manager Kenny Williams says in an interview this week that he wants Adam Dunn and Alex Rios to quit focusing on their individual stats and instead devote their attention to helping the team win.
Speaking to the Chicago Sun-Times, Williams says Dunn and Rios – who have both had disappointing performances so far this season – need to "go out on a day-to-day basis and help the team win that particular day." He says they have their lucrative contracts, and it's not about their financial security, but about the team.
And if the team ends the season in failure, Williams tells the newspaper, one player's personal statistics don't make any difference.
"If you're celebrating in the locker room and you have a chance to go to the World Series, what the hell do you care if you hit .220 this year or if you didn't drive in 10 or 15 runs more?" he told the Sun-Times.
Williams was also asked by the Sun-Times whether manager Ozzie Guillen's job was safe, which he evaded by saying nobody's job is really safe, and "there's an expiration date on all of us."
