White Sox Get Boston Outfielder For Pitcher Thornton
(CBS) -- The Chicago White Sox have acquired minor-league outfielder Brandon Jacobs from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for pitcher Matt Thornton and cash considerations.
The White Sox announced the deal in a news release Friday.
Jacobs, 22, is hitting .247 and was recently promoted to Class AA Portland on July 10. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound player was selected in the 10th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Parkview (Ga.) High School.
Thornton, 37, ranks among Chicago's all-time relief leaders in appearances.
The White Sox will make a corresponding roster move prior to Game 1 of tomorrow's doubleheader at Philadelphia.
