White Sox Decline To Tender Contracts To Tyler Flowers, Jacob Turner
(CBS) The White Sox have declined to tender contracts to catcher Tyler Flowers and right-hander Jacob Turner, they announced Wednesday, making them free agents.
Both players were arbitration-eligible.
Flowers, 29, hit .239 with nine homers and 39 RBIs in 112 games in 2015. The White Sox not tendering Flowers was somewhat of a surprise, though they recently signed catcher Alex Avila, who'll be expected to take a leading role behind the plate.
Turner, 24, was acquired off waivers from the Cubs in late October. He didn't pitch in the big leagues in 2015 as he dealt with a strained flexor tendon for most of the season. He has a career 4.97 ERA.
