CHICAGO (CBS) The White Sox and Cubs resumed play Tuesday night after a one hour, 54 minute rain delay at U.S. Cellular Field.
A severe storm system moved into the area and forced a rain delay at 8:24 p.m.
Heavy rain and wind moved in quickly and the White Sox grounds crew struggled to get the tarp on the field as the rain delay officially started at 8:24 p.m. A few members of the groundscrew were actually thrown to the ground as winds swept the tarp away.
The White Sox had a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning when the delay began. The Cubs had runners at first and third at the time, threatening to tie or take the lead.
Once the game resumed, Reed Johnson scored on an Aramis Ramirez sacrifice fly to tie the game at two. But in the bottom of the seventh, Brent Morel drove in Alexei Ramirez with a sac fly and the White Sox would go on to win 3-2.
