White Sox Complete Rios Trade, Acquire INF Prospect Garcia
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The White Sox completed their trade of outfielder Alex Rios to the Texas Rangers on Sunday, by acquiring minor league infielder Leury Garcia.
Garcia, 22, was batting .264 with 4 home runs, 19 RBI, and 12 stolen bases in 47 games at Triple-A Round Rock this season.
He has made 42 appearances at shortstop and five in center field.
In six seasons in the minors, he's a career .261 hitter, with 13 home runs, 143 RBI and 155 stolen bases in 475 games.
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Garcia made the Rangers Opening Day roster, hitting .192 with a triple, 1 RBI, 8 runs scored, and one stolen base in 52 at-bats in the majors. He made nine starts at second base and two each at shortstop and third before being optioned to Round Rock on June 15.
Prior to the season, Garcia was named by Baseball America as the Rangers' No. 20 Prospect, fastest baserunner and best infield arm.
Garcia will be optioned to Class AAA Charlotte.
