Wheaton Coyote Attacks Resume
(CBS) – Wheaton Police say three dogs have been killed by coyotes in the past two weeks.
There were two incidents in Wheaton this week alone. In one, two coyotes snatched a small dog from outside a home. In the other, a coyote attacked a dog in a fenced yard, and the injured dog had to be euthanized.
Before that - on Nov. 27, a resident was walking two dogs -- one on a leash, the other not. A coyote grabbed the unleashed dog and left.
Wheaton Police Chief Mark Field says for a time, there were no coyote attacks.
"It's become cyclical, and we're going back through another unfortunate cycle where we've lost some household pets as a result of this," he tells WBBM Newsradio.
Chief Field says there's no pattern to these recent coyote attacks.
Two were in the southern part of Wheaton and the most recent attack was in the northern part of the city.
