Wheaton Man Gets 55 Years For Killing Neighbor
WHEATON (CBS) -- A west suburban man was sentenced to 55 years in prison Tuesday for stabbing a neighbor to death in 2009 in Wheaton.
Judge Daniel Guerin sentenced Michael Delaney, 49, to 55 years in prison, according to a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office. A jury found Delaney, of Wheaton, guilty of first-degree murder Feb. 22 after more than five hours of deliberations.
Delaney stabbed his neighbor, Micahel Scalzo, to death in 2009.
Scalzo and friends were working in a garage on June 19, 2009, when Delaney threatened the group, according to the state's attorney's office. Delaney came back to the garage about 8:30 p.m. and Scalzo confronted him.
Once Scalzo was within reach, Delaney beat him, pulled his shirt over his head and stabbed him six times with a kitchen knife, the state's attorney's office said. Delaney fled, but officer took him into custody several minutes later.
Delaney must serve his entire sentence.
