Wheaton HS Student Hurt In Car-Surfing Accident
WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) - A high school student was injured Tuesday afternoon while apparently trying to "car surf" in west suburban Wheaton has been airlifted to an area hospital.
The 16-year-old boy was with a group of other students after school in Northside Park in Wheaton when the accident happened about 2:30 p.m., said Erica Loiacono, spokesperson for Community Unit School District 200.
Some of the students in the group were "car surfing," Loiacono said. The teen was on the hood of a car, then rolled off the front of the vehicle and was "severely" injured when the car then rolled over him, she said.
The teen is a student at Wheaton North High School, located about two blocks from the park. He was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Loiacono said.
She couldn't immediately say what grade the teen is in, or how many other students were with him.
Wheaton North High School celebrated the graduation of its senior class this past weekend, but class remains in session until June 6, Loiacono said.
