Westmont Man Charged With Murder Of Father
WESTMONT, Ill. (STMW) -- A 32-year-old west suburban man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his 63-year-old father during a Saturday afternoon fight at the Westmont hotel where the younger man lived.
Police responded at 1:07 p.m. Saturday to a reported fight with a person stabbed at the Homestead Studio Suites at 855 Pasquinelli Dr. in Westmont, according to a release from the Westmont Police Department.
Officers found William Clifford, 63, lying in the hallway of the third floor of the complex, a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office said. Clifford was bleeding from his upper body and was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead.
William Clifford went to the residence earlier Saturday to visit his son, William V. Clifford, 32, the state's attorney's release said. While the elder Clifford was visiting his son, state's attorneys allege, a fight broke out between father and son, in which the younger Clifford repeatedly stabbed his father in the upper body. After the fight, the younger Clifford allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was immediately apprehended by Westmont police, without incident.
One count of first degree murder was filed Sunday against William V. Clifford, the state's attorney's office said. The count carries a minimum sentence of 20 - 60 years in prison.
Clifford is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Monday at the 8 a.m. call at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton.
