CHICAGO (CBS) - It won't be anything like this past Sunday, but you should still wash the road salt stains off your boots, because more snow is coming our way.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says in the immediate Chicago area and elsewhere close to the lake, no significant accumulation is expected. Light snow showers are anticipated until noon.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for areas far west and southwest of Chicago, no closer than LaSalle County. Those areas could see 3 to 5 inches of accumulation.
As of the 5 a.m. hour, flurries were falling in the immediate Chicago area, while the precipitation was slightly heavier in areas to the south such as Kankakee.
Glaros says the snow is part of a storm system that runs diagonally from western Manitoba, Canada, southeast all the way to the Carolinas. The system is bringing a miserable rain-snow mix to some areas elsewhere in the country, including Cincinnati and parts of Kentucky.
The high for Thursday is 29 degrees, which feels balmy given the teens and single digits that have been plaguing the area lately. The low drops to 15 degrees overnight, and the mercury is not expected to crack 30 degrees anytime in the coming week.
Snow had been expected to come to the Chicago area earlier, but Wednesday night ended up being dry.
