All Lanes Reopen After Fiery Truck Crash On Borman Expressway

CHICAGO (STMW) -- All lanes of the the Borman Expressway have reopened after a fiery semi truck crash early Tuesday in northwest Indiana that left most lanes closed during the morning commute.
The truck was westbound on I-80/94 about a mile west of the Grant Street exit at 1:08 a.m. when it hit a crash cushion and cement pillar, went airborne, and came to rest across the right, right middle and left middle lanes under the Chase Street overpass, according to Indiana State Police. It then caught fire.
The driver managed to get out of the truck before it was fully engulfed in flames and was not injured, state police said. Both the semi and its trailer, which was loaded with auto parts, were a "total loss."
All four westbound lanes had reopened as of 8:45 a.m., according to state police. The far right exit lane remains closed.
Engineers have also deemed it safe to drive under the Chase Street overpass, but Chase Street over I-80/94 in Gary will remain closed for further inspection, state police said.
Drivers are still advised to avoid the area due to long delays.
