West Side Water Main Break Floods Part Of Ike
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A water main break early Friday turned the berm on the side of the Eisenhower Expressway into a waterfall on the city's West Side.
The water main broke in the wee hours Friday at Harrison Street and Karlov Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports so much water erupted from the broken main that it ended up cascading down the berm and partially flooding the right shoulder of the inbound Eisenhower near Pulaski Road.
With temperatures at minus 2 Friday morning, the water was quick to turn to ice.
Illinois Department of Transportation crews spread a copious amount of salt to melt the dangerous ice, as city Department of Water Management crews filled the hole from the main break.
