West Side Police Chase Ends In Exchange Of Gunfire
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were in custody Monday morning, following a police chase across the city's West Side that ended in an exchange of gunfire.
Just after midnight Monday, officers began chasing two men in a car after hearing gunfire near the intersection of Laporte and West End avenues in the South Austin neighborhood, police said.
The chase continued east on Harrison Street, then onto and off the Eisenhower Expressway.
Officers finally caught the fleeing vehicle a short time later near the intersection of Arthington and Ada streets near the Taylor Street Little Italy district, police said.
Andrea Stoutenborough, a spokeswoman for the Independent Police Review Authority, said shots were fired both at and by the pursuing officers during the incident.
No injuries were reported, according to Stoutenborough.
Harrison Area police detectives and the IPRA -- which probes all police-involved shootings -- are investigating.
