West Chicago Mayor Dies After Suffering Heart Attack
WEST CHICAGO (STMW) -- West Chicago Mayor Mike Kwasman died Tuesday afternoon, three days after suffering a heart attack.
Kwasman suffered the heart attack Saturday and was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. On Tuesday, the city announced Kwasman died surrounded by his wife and other family members.
"This is a tremendous loss to the citizens of West Chicago and to all who knew Mayor Kwasman," Alderman and Deputy Mayor Ruben Pineda said. "He was not only a great leader, but also a great friend."
Kwasman served in public office in the western suburb for 20 years, the last five as mayor.
"His record of public service and his countless contributions as mayor of the city he loved will serve as a legacy to future generations," City Administrator Michael Guttman said in a statement. "We will carry on his vision into the future, but first we mourn his loss."
Funeral arrangements are pending.
