West Chicago Appoints First Hispanic Mayor
CHICAGO (CBS) -- For the first time in its history, West Chicago now has a Hispanic mayor.
The City Council appointed Alderman Ruben Pineda as acting mayor following the death of Michael Kwasman, who suffered a heart attack at a restaurant.
Pineda, 52, has lived in the village, which has a significant Hispanic population, since he was very young.
He has not said if he will run for a full term.
His temporary term expires next April.
