Wennington: Bulls Play Team Focused Basketball

CHICAGO (WSCR) -- The Chicago Bulls ended the regular season with the best record in the NBA. Coming into the season no one saw this kind of a jump from the 41-win team that lost in the first round of the playoffs last season.

And as important as Derrick Rose has been to the Bulls' success, he alone could not have gotten them to this point. It's the way the Bulls play that has resulted in them becoming a legitimate title contender.

"This is basketball," former Bull and current radio color commentator Bill Wennington said on the Danny Mac Show. "You have five guys on the floor working together, you're not trying to hide two or three guys. They use Derrick coming off screens. They use Derrick with the basketball, without the basketball."

There's no doubt that Rose has been the best player on the Bulls this season, and that without him they would be no where near where they are. But it's important to realize that while Rose steals the headlines, his teammates have chipped in as well.

"You have the 'Bench Mob' now," Wennington said. "They've created their own identity and coming in off the bench and holding things...In the last game of the season, the last starter, Derrick Rose, was taken out of the game with about 8:09 left in the game. They were down six points. And the 'Bench Mob' brings them back and wins the game for them.

"You have a whole bunch of components working together that make it real, team basketball. And for the purists, it's just nice to see that again because you have a lot teams where you have one or two stars and they just kind of do everything and everyone else is there just to play a little defense here or there."
