Wennington: Bulls 'Expected' To Be Here, Heat Are 'Overly Excited'
CHICAGO (WSCR) The Chicago Bulls swept the Miami Heat in their regular season series. Those wins don't count for the Bulls in the upcoming Eastern Conference finals matchup, but after ending the regular season with the best record in the league, the Bulls know they belong.
On Thursday night, Chicago eliminated the Atlanta Hawks and reached the conference finals for the first time since 1998, when they were led by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.
"There was no celebration [Thursday] night," former Bull and current radio analyst Bill Wennington said on the Danny Mac Show. "This is what, I think, they expected themselves to do, and they understand the task at hand...I give this team a lot of credit, for a young team that hasn't been together very long, they acted very mature. They're very focused on what they want to do, and they're very goal-oriented. And now they have another goal in front of them that they want to accomplish."
While the Bulls chose not to celebrate after moving past the second round, the Heat did what they do best: celebrated themselves.
"Before the season started...they were the odds-on favorites," Wennington said. "Yes they did have struggles, but they haven't done anything more than they were expected to do. Who didn't expect them to be in the Eastern Conference finals? Just becuase they had struggles during the season, everyone said 'well maybe not.' But here they are, they're doing what everyone thought they'd do, and they're overly excited about it. It just seems to me that everything that they do has to be a big show and circumstance all around it, everyone has to know how exciting and great it is to be in Miami right now, and I get it, but they haven't done anything they weren't supposed to do yet."
