Weekend Heat To Bring On Potential For Tornadoes

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A warm yet cloudy Saturday will make way for a dramatic Sunday, as a mixture of warm temperatures and heavy wind gusts could produce tornadoes in the Chicago area.

Saturday will reach a high of 67 degrees with just a 20 percent chance of storms beginning after 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The low will reach 57 degrees on Saturday night.

But severe weather is expected late Sunday afternoon with the worst to hit Sunday night into early Monday, NWS meterologist Charles Mott said. That's when a widespread and severe weather outbreak could produce widespread damaging winds with the possibility that some of those storms could produce tornadoes and large hail.

The storm should hit north central Illinois, northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Showers should continue into Monday but a break in the rain will happen on Tuesday, when temperatures will reach a high of 56 degrees, the weather service said.
