Weber's 'Obama Is Hitler' Apology Almost Worse
By John Dodge
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Often, the apology tells us more about the man than the actual offense.
Consider the recent behavior of Rep. Randy Weber of Texas.
In a bizarre lapse of common sense, let alone political judgment, Weber somehow thought it was clever to compare President Obama to Hitler on Twitter.
The tweet has been deleted, but Weber essentially came to the conclusion that even Adolf (he spelled it Adolph) Hitler knew it was important to go to Paris, but Obama didn't.
It was intended as a swipe at the President for not attending a big peace rally with other world leaders this past weekend.
So, on Tuesday, Weber said he was sorry to those he offended.
Included with that tweet is a link to Weber's full statement on the matter.
In that statement, he says: "I now realize that the use of Hitler invokes pain and emotional trauma for those affected by the atrocities of the Holocaust and victims of anti-Semitism and hate."
Randy Weber is 61 years old and serves in the United States House of Representatives. Yet, it somehow has taken him decades to reach the conclusion that "Hitler invokes pain and emotional trauma."
Amazingly, when Weber has in the Texas State House, he served on the Education Committee.
And education is precisely what Weber needs.
