WBBM Newsradio Wins 6 Associated Press Awards
CHICAGO (CBS) -- WBBM Newsradio won awards in all five categories in the Metro Radio division of the Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association 2011 Journalism Excellence Contest.
The station is taking home both first and second place for Best Spot News– first place for coverage the blizzard that dumped 21.2 inches of snow on the area on Feb. 1-2 of last year, and second place for the Blagojevich guilty verdict on June 27 of last year.
WBBM Newsradio also won first place for Outstanding News Operation, and for Best Newscast – the 4 p.m. broadcast on July 12 of last year, with Keith Johnson, Steve Grzanich and Dave Kerner.
Felicia Middlebrooks' feature "Mitchell's" won first place for Best Hard News Feature, and Jeff Joniak's "Joniak's Journal" on Bears defensive tackle Amobi Okoye won second place for Best Sports.
The awards will be presented on Saturday, April 28, at the Illinois News Broadcasters Association convention in Macomb, Ill.
