Waukegan Declares Snow Emergency

CHICAGO (CBS) -- As the latest round of snow hit the area, the city of Waukegan declared a snow emergency early Sunday morning.

City leaders issued the emergency because they're having trouble clearing the streets. Plows can't move in some narrow spots where drivers ignored orders to move their cars. Cars that aren't moved from designated snow routs risk being towed.

The Department of Streets and Sanitation also announced that they are increasing the number of snow trucks deployed from 200 to more than 300.

"We've had crews out since Thursday on this, it's been a continuous round-the-clock effort," said Cole Stallard, Deputy Commissioner of Streets and Sanitation.

The snow emergency remains in effect Sunday night.
