Woman Shot And Killed In Waukegan
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 24-year-old mother was shot and killed early Monday in north suburban Waukegan.
Police said officers responded to a call about a shooting at 4:30 a.m. in the 1600 block of 11th Street. Officers found evidence of a shooting in the street, but did not find a victim.
A short time later, a local hospital notified police about a gunshot victim who was brought to the emergency room. Ciera Davis, 24, was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Waukegan police.
"You just killed a mother. You just took a little boy's momma away from him," according to a post on Facebook.
Davis was just a few credit's shy of an associates degree. Shocked neighbors offered their condolences.
"It's very very sad," said Pernell Moore. "You know? You know? This don't happen every day around here."
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation at a house party in the 1600 block of 11th Street, police said. Family and neighbors say it started between the victim and another woman. Witnesses sayd they heard it end with as many as eight shots.
The public, police said, is not in any danger. Police would not confirm whether a suspect was in custody.
Relatives have set up a Go Fund Me page to cover funeral costs and to raise money for Davis' son.
