Watkins Wants More Community-Based Policing
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- One of the lesser-known candidates for mayor of Chicago has outlined what she says is a better approach to Chicago's anti-crime efforts.

Mayoral hopeful Patricia Van Pelt-Watkins said she would hire more community-based police officers, but she believes putting more cops in the line of fire is not the answer.
She proposed providing more funding for community efforts like CeaseFire, which puts former gang members and others on the streets to ease tensions.
Watkins outlined her plans outside her old high school, Fenger High School, where honor student Derrion Albert attended before he was killed in a melee last year.
