Water Main Break Snags Cumberland Avenue In Park Ridge
PARK RIDGE, Ill. (CBS) -- Southbound Cumberland Avenue in Park Ridge was blocked as the morning rush began Monday morning, following a water main break.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the pavement at Cumberland and Granville avenues buckled early morning, sending water up from the main buried beneath the street.
By 6:15 a.m., public works crews had arrived and put out barricades. They were also hooking up an arrow board to direct motorists away from the street.
Southbound Cumberland Avenue was blocked between Devon Avenue and Higgins Road – a difficult situation for commuters headed for the Kennedy Expressway just to the south.
The northbound lanes might also end up having to be closed, Habermehl reports.
Water pressure in the area is expected to be affected adversely. Commuters with clean cars should also avoid the area, Habermehl says.
