Water Main Break Shuts Down Waukegan Road In Northbrook
UPDATED 04/16/12 9 a.m.
NORTHBROOK, Ill. (CBS) -- Crews Monday morning were working to repair a water main break in Northbrook.
As CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports, around 7 p.m. Sunday, a water main burst underneath Waukegan Road near Woodhill Drive, causing the road to buckle.
The asphalt was reportedly raised about 1 foot.
The main break forced the closure of Waukegan Road between Shermer Road and Walters Avenue.
Crews had to dig a 6-foot deep hole to get to the main. After the main break was brought under control, the road remained closed as crews had to fill the hole.
As of 5 a.m., crews had filled in the hole with gravel, and inspectors from the Illinois Department of Transportation were expected to arrive and check out the hole and the street for stability.
Waukegan Road reopened as the morning rush started around 6:30 a.m., but repairs continued.
