Water Main Break Leaves Cermak And Harlem Awash In Mud
NORTH RIVERSIDE, Ill. (CBS) -- The busy intersection of Cermak Road and Harlem Avenue was awash in mud Monday morning, after a water main broke beneath the pavement.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the water main ruptured in the predawn hours at the busy junction, on the boundary between Berwyn and North Riverside.
Mud was bubbling up through the pavement on the eastbound side of Cermak Road, which was closed as crews drilled a hole with a jackhammer and tried to pump out the water and mud.
The westbound side of Cermak Road was wet, and only one lane of traffic was open.
Habermehl says the repairs for the water main are expected to take all day.
