Watchdog: County's Budget Situation Seems To Be Improving
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Cook County is going to see more layoffs and red ink, but a Chicago budget watchdog says the situation seems to be improving.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's John Cody reports, County Board President Toni Preckwinkle says attrition will not produce the staff cuts she needs for a balanced budget, so layoffs are coming again.

But Civic Federation President Laurence Msall says the size of the county's budget shortfall is moving the right direction, compared with that of last year.
"We would expect that it would be significantly smaller than the $487 million that she inherited, primarily because of many of the efficiencies and changes that have occurred under the new president's watch," Msall said.
The new preliminary Cook County budget for 2012 will be out later Thursday.
