WATCH: Thieves Load Up On Smart Phones
(CBS) -- A recent burglary at an Old Irving phone store has the owner asking: What took police so long to respond?
The Boost Mobile store, in the 4000 block of West Montrose, has been victimized twice by classic dead-of-night heist artists, CBS 2's Mike Parker reports.
Burglars broke into the store at 2:11 a.m. Dec. 12, tried to disable the alarm and then proceeded to loot the place. They took an estimated $4,000 to $6,000 in smart phones and took currency from the cash drawer before making their getaway.
Police arrived at 2:55 a.m. – 44 minutes after the alarm sounded. The bad guys were long gone.
"It's kind of shocking to me," owner Jose Ordaz says. "We do have the police station down the street. For them to respond kind of late for it … it kind of makes you think, what are my tax dollars going for?"
Thieves again broke into the store four days later, but did not get away with much inventory. It had been depleted.
The Chicago Police Department "responds to dispatched calls as quickly and safely as possible," the agency said in a written statement.
Police say the Boost Mobile break-in is part of a series of burglaries.
