Watch For Clogged Sewers As Snow Melts
CHICAGO (CBS) -- As what remains of the blizzard snow melts on this springlike day, there is a warning that the sewers can easily get plugged up.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports the snow piles from the Feb. 1-2 blizzard have been dwindling.
Sometimes, the consequence can be debris, garbage and chunks of ice in the streets, and as the snow and ice melt and begin to drain away, storm sewers can sometimes get clogged.
Some water could be seen on many city streets Thursday morning, although not enough to cause problems. But clogged storm sewers might pose a problem on some of the city's many side streets, Habermehl said.
As of Thursday morning, there had been no reports of major street flooding, as the meltdown had been mellow and gradual.
The blizzard earlier this month dumped 21.2 inches of snow on the city.
Anyone who sees high standing water is advised to call 311 so someone can come and unclog the sewer.
