Watch: Cubs' Kris Bryant Hits Home Run Off Video Board
(CBS) A protective netting screens the front of Wrigley Field's new left-field video board, which spans 95 feet and stands 42 feet high. Such a concept came from fear of exposing the ballpark's new amenity to blasts like that from Kris Bryant in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game with Washington.
The Cubs' rookie third baseman hit the longest home run Wrigley Field has housed in the young 2015 season, a blast that nearly went over the video board. It exited the bat at 110.9 mph and would've gone 463 feet, according to ESPN Stats & Info, while MLB Statcast estimated it at 477 feet. It became the first home run ball to threaten the board this year.
This home run was Bryant's seventh in his rookie season, and he has 31 RBIs as well.
