Washington Heights Infant's Death Ruled A Homicide
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The death of a 3-month-old boy from the South Side Washington Heights neighborhood has been ruled a homicide after an autopsy found the infant died from a head injury and child abuse.
The state Department of Children & Family Services and Chicago Police are investigating the death of Tayshaun Dyson, who was found unresponsive at his home in the 8900 block of South Throop Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Authorities found the boy unresponsive when they arrived at the home about 3:40 p.m. last Thursday, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Tayshaun was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 8:16 a.m. Sunday, the medical examiner's office said. An autopsy Tuesday ruled the cause of death a closed head injury and child abuse, and the death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.
DCFS is investigating allegations of abuse against the father, spokesman Dave Clarkin said Monday. DCFS has had no prior contact with the family, and there are no siblings in the home, he said.
Area South detectives are conducting a homicide investigation, though it was not clear if any arrests had been made as of late Tuesday.
