Was Springfield Water Pump Failure A Cyber Attack?
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is investigating the failure of a water pump in Springfield as a possible cyber attack.
Security expert Joe Weiss disclosed the possible attack on his blog yesterday.
He cites a state government report, titled "Public Water District Cyber Intrusion," in which workers in the state capital noted "glitches" for several weeks. The pump eventually burned out.
He says a computer repair company discovered the hacking. Homeland Security says the cause of the failure is unknown.
