Warning Issued After Coyote Bites Man In Aurora
AURORA (CBS) -- Police in west suburban Aurora are advising residents to watch for coyotes after a man was bitten while standing in his yard.
The city sent hundreds of fliers to residents on the city's near West Side after they determined the animal that attacked was likely a coyote.
On April 20, a 47-year-old Aurora man called 911 after he was bitten by an animal while standing in his back yard.

The man told police and paramedics that he was near his side door when the animal surprised him. He was bitten on the arm and scratched, but not seriously injured, police said. The man was treated at the scene.
The animal ran off after attacking the resident. The victim reported that a second possible coyote was seen nearby. City employees searched the area, but could not find either animal.
Coyote attacks on humans are extremely rare.
Calls for coyote sightings have increased since Aurora and other cities began a public awareness campaign. Many of the animals are being squeezed out of their natural habitats by development and are forced to look for food in residential areas.
The city advises carrying a walking stick. Anyone spotting a coyote should call Animal Control at 630-256-3630. If the coyote is attacking a person, the resident should call 911 and Animal Control will also be contacted.
