Warm Start To The Week, But Cold Front Brings Autumnal Chill After Monday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Columbus Day should be a great day to spend outdoors in Chicago, with much warmer temperatures than normal, although a cold front will bring a big change in temperatures overnight.
The high was expected to reach about 72 degrees in Chicago, which is about 8 degrees above normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service.
Meantime, a cold front extending from northern Minnesota to northwestern Oklahoma was moving toward Chicago, and when it arrives, winds will increase, with gusts of up to 40 mph, and sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph.
That cold front also will usher in much cooler temperatures, with a low of about 47 overnight.
Temperatures midweek also will be much more autumnal, with highs in the low 60s, and lows in the mid 40s Tuesday through Thursday. The weekend will be even chillier, as temperatures are not expected to get out of the high 50s Friday through Sunday, and could reach as low as 40 in the overnight hours.
However, the week should be mostly dry, with the only significant chance of showers coming Thursday evening, and the rest of the forecast this week mostly clear and sunny during the day.
