Walter's Perspective: Thank Ozzie For Staying Ozzie
CHICAGO (CBS) -- It often seems there is no news in Chicago bigger than sports news – Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, the Blackhawks, the Bears being bad, the Cubs being worse.
Tonight, it's Ozzie Guillen being gone. Huge news that Chicago sports writers are grand slammin'.
The Sun-Times says "Ozzie's Out." The Tribune says he's "Gone Fishin'" because money talks. If you're Ozzie, snarls the Tribune, greed is good.
The scribes are scribbling scowls about Ozzie, crabbing that he's leaving the White Sox for money to buy himself a boat and fancy things for his wife and children.
That is what he's doing. He says so. And so what?
He earned it by pitching us good baseball and great entertainment and being straight forward and honest in a dishonest business of steroids and corked bats.
I say don't scowl at Ozzie for being Ozzie. Thank him for it.
