Walter's Perspective: Negative Political Ads
CHICAGO (CBS) - Like so many people in Chicago, I love politics. Love to watch the pols play the game. But enough already of angry candidates whining and lying to get elected.
It's no wonder the latest public opinion poll shows Governor Quinn with just a 34 percent approval rating, and his opponent Bill Brady just 30 percent.
The candidates for governor of Illinois: hardly 30 percent public approval? Even Rod Blagojevich was at 44 percent.
It is inexcusable how they're campaigning, the garbage they're pitching.
Not only Quinn and Brady for governor, but Kirk and Giannoulias for the Senate. Almost nothing in their TV commercials about qualifications for office or plans to create jobs.
They are spending millions, literally millions, to scream at us about how bad the other guy is. Dishonestly, deceitfully twisting truths about each other. They must think that's what we want to hear.
Well, excuse me, Mr. Candidates, but you're insulting us, paying your hucksters to dumb us down to the depths into which you are driving politics. How sad.
