Walter's Perspective: More Of The Same Nothing From Lawmakers On Pension Crisis
(CBS) -- It's hard to believe, but there are some players in the news playing worse than the Fighting Irish.
They're the fighting lunkheads in the Illinois General Assembly; the politicians who are fighting for the cash they stash to win elections, while what we win is deeper debt and higher taxes.
They won't quit the politics that have driven our pension system into $96 billion of debt. And as they play their games, the debt grows by nearly $1 million an hour.
The question is how to stop the games in the General Assembly. It does us no good to understand that stashing cash raises our taxes, or to blame the politicians for doing it.
We ought to blame ourselves for electing them to do it, and allowing them to get away with it.
