Walter's Perspective: Marilyn A Welcome Addition To 'The Mile'
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Heading into a hot summer weekend in Chicago, there is more news to report about our Magnificent Mile on North Michigan Avenue. Not the bad news we've been reporting about crime and violence on the Mile, but some good news for a change.
And how very good it is.
Or how good SHE is: Marilyn Monroe on the Mag Mile outside Tribune Tower. Very tall. Twenty-six feet of Marilyn Monroe from the movie "The Seven Year Itch" that made her famous. Her legs, her shoes, her dress and her face – to be unveiled Friday – in celebration of another big piece of art in an outdoor public place, along with Miro and Chagall and Dubuffet and Calder and Pablo Picasso and The Bean in Millennium Park.
So we did not get the Olympics, but we have Ms. Monroe, keeping us on top of the outdoor world, and just when we need it, a smile on that mile.
