Walter's Perspective: Let Women Tennis Players Grunt
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The summertime buzz in sports is baseball -- the White Sox in first place, the Cubs in last, the Sox the best, the Cubs the worst.
A lot to buzz about, but not for me. I'm into tennis: the spectacular sights and sounds, those world-famous tennis grunts.
Those grunts may be gone because the World Tennis Federation, the stuffy federation, doesn't like them anymore. They're distracting, they're inelegant, they're not nice.
Oh, how undignified. So, the Federation is proposing "gruntometers" to measure the grunts to penalize the ones that are too loud -- whatever too loud is.
Well, excuse me, la-di-da Federation. The grunts are the body physics of the game – put everything into a serve, breathe hard, let loose. Can't help but grunt. The men do it, too.
But the Federation's not picking on men, just on the women. That's what's not nice.
