Walter's Perspective: Jesse Wants His Privacy, We Want Answers
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Tonight is the 30th night in a row -- a month -- since the beginning of the great Jesse Jackson Jr. mystery. What's become of the congressman, who's taken a leave of absence?
Where, Mr. Jackson, are you?
What are you doing?
Are you okay?
All we know is that your press secretary says you need privacy. So we have to guess about things, and because your wife says she's concerned about providing for her children, people are guessing terrible things.
One thing we do know, which I know you know, is that it's you who's depriving yourself of your privacy.
It's a fact of life in politics and the press that a mystery is a challenge, and that reporters are now competing for the big scoop about what's going on.
And you do know we will find out, because your colleagues in Congress and your constituents want us to.
One thing you ought to know is that you can stop the guessing and speculation in the news, and have your privacy, by telling us what's going on.
