CHICAGO (CBS) -- Tonight's a birthday night. It's been 60 years since CBS began using the iconic eye logo. It's the most successful corporate logo in the history of American business and an American icon, winking the standard of television news – the hard news of Edward R. Murrow.
Eric Sevareid, Walter Cronkite and Mike Wallace all have reported what's being done around the world for CBS, digging for what's done wrong.
That good old reliable CBS eye has been watching Washington, the White House and Congress taking our money and wasting it; the politicians in Springfield burying us into $8 billion of debt.
That big eye has been keeping an eye on City Hall in Chicago, trading favors and contracts for votes; and on the bullies at the Chicago Board of Education blaming teachers for what's bad in the schools.
Happy birthday, CBS eye. Here's to 60 more good years.
