Walter's Perspective: Chick-Fil-A Debate A Source Of Heartburn
CHICAGO (CBS) -- I've never had a Chick-fil-A but I'm going to try one to see if it tastes as bad as my feeling is about the guy who sells them, the now-famous Chick-fil-A owner, the Chick-Chief who opposes gay marriage, and campaigns to prevent it.
I don't know the guy, but I don't like him. Who's he to judge people in their personal lives?
But – but – who am I, and who's the Chicago alderman, Joe Moreno, to judge the chief in HIS personal life? He wants to open a restaurant in Joe's ward, and Joe says no, you oppose gay marriage, Mr. Chick-Chief! No way will you do business in MY ward.
In other words, Ald. Moreno's personal politics is denying a choice to residents of his ward and denying a business a chance to create jobs in his ward.
That's how it works in the Chicago City Council: Zoning is the power of the alderman.
In the hands of Ald. Moreno, too much power.
