Walter's Perspective: Allowing Guns On Public Transportation Is Madness
(CBS) -- When reporting the news, I try always to stick to the facts.
In "Perspective," I express an opinion about guns tonight and the Illinois General Assembly working on a law that may allow us to conceal-and-carry loaded guns in Chicago.
The National Rifle Association is demanding the assembly allow loaded guns on public transportation, at all times of day or night, on crowded buses and subways, when riders are irritable, tempers are short and conflicts are common; or when drunks with guns may fight and shoot or a thief is picking a pocket and a rider may shoot to stop him.
It's hard, sometimes impossible, for me to imagine the assembly doing what the NRA tells it to do, but it often does.
The fact is that loaded guns on a crowded bus or subway are deathly dangerous. My opinion is that Wild West on the CTA is madness, just plain crazy.
